Beyond the bustle of Bucharest, a slower-paced way of life awaits in the Romanian countryside, and in mountainous Transylvania, you’ll find a region rooted in folklore and centuries-old traditions. Enclosed by the grand Carpathian Mountains, the area is perhaps best known for its Dracula legend, and its fortified churches, villages and looming castles fit the setting of Bram Stoker’s classic perfectly. Its terminus, Tulcea’s Danube Delta, is Europe’s youngest and most biodiverse wetland area, with more than 370 bird species and a number of thriving marine ecosystems.
