Five iconic experiences to enjoy after Wimbledon
As the 2026 Wimbledon Championships draw to a close, there are plenty more iconic experiences waiting to be had.
Whether you watched the Championships in person or from home, this year's tournament has been as thrilling as ever and is sure to have a few more twists in store over finals weekend.
After the excitement dies down, though, we're looking further afield for similarly captivating events to add to our travel wish-lists. From the dazzling ‘Festival of Lights’ in India to the most memorable seasonal sights across Europe and North America, here are five iconic experiences to enjoy after Wimbledon.
More iconic experiences you won't want to miss
1. The Northern Lights, Iceland
Wimbledon belongs to summer, but some of the most rewarding travel happens when the seasons turn. The Northern Lights, for instance, are best seen from September onwards, and a trip to unspoilt Iceland could be an excellent opportunity to watch this enchanting phenomenon alongside some notable sightseeing. With darker skies, which make the greens and purples of the aurora even easier to spot, autumn is the perfect time to see this Nordic nation at its most dramatic.
Reykjavík makes a great base and is compact enough to explore on foot, with geothermal pools, award-winning seafood restaurants and an unmatched cultural energy. Pair a lights-chasing excursion with a trip to the Golden Circle or a glacier walk, and you've got an itinerary that earns its place on any wish-list.

2. New England's autumn colours
Like Iceland, North America boasts a wide variety of seasonal sights, and of the continent's many natural wonders, few are as reliably impressive as New England’s colourful autumn foliage. Enjoy a taste of life in small-town America, explore the exciting cities, or soak up the vast national parks that line the New England countryside.
The season also coincides with some of New England's most optimal weather, with clear skies and mild temperatures offering good conditions to explore each spot. It's also an ideal time to sample the region's warming local delicacies, from hearty clam chowder to traditional apple pie, and to experience local culture.

3. Christmas markets, Europe
As the nights draw in during the festive period, Europe's Christmas markets bring their own kind of spectacle. Running from November into December, wooden chalets selling mulled wine, roasted chestnuts and handmade gifts fill city squares across the continent, each with its own local flavour and tradition.
Vienna's markets sit beneath the Rathaus in imperial splendour, Riga keeps things traditional, and Switzerland's alpine villages create a snow-dusted backdrop. Whichever you choose, the mix of festive food, drink and craft makes for one of Europe's most charming seasonal traditions.

4. Diwali, India
Where Carnival brings noise and colour to the streets of Rio, India's Diwali brings light. Held over five days each autumn, the ‘Festival of Lights’ sees homes, temples and entire cityscapes lit with thousands of diyas (oil lamps), fireworks and candles, marking the triumph of light over darkness.
Jaipur's markets are awash with lanterns and marigold garlands, while Varanasi's ghats along the Ganges host some of the most striking evening ceremonies anywhere in the world. Make sure to view Amritsar's Golden Temple, which is transformed into one of the most beautiful sights of the season. Few celebrations showcase such a colourful introduction to Indian culture, cuisine and tradition.
Our recommended tour – India – Tigers & the Taj Mahal

5. André Rieu’s New Year’s Concert, Amsterdam
Few ways to start the year top a live performance from André Rieu. Each January, the 'Waltz King' and his Johann Strauss Orchestra bring their traditional New Year's concert to Amsterdam's Ziggo Dome, filling the arena with waltzes, opera and classic film scores.
It's the perfect excuse for a short break in one of Europe's most charming capitals: spend the day wandering Amsterdam's canals and museums, then head out to the fishing village of Volendam, known for its colourful houses and harbour. For something extra, add on a canal cruise through the Amsterdam Light Festival, taking in the illuminated artworks that line the city's waterways after dark.
