From the bohemian glories of Prague to the medieval splendours of Krakow there is a multitude of reasons to take a city break or a longer escape in Eastern Europe. Western Europe is often favoured over Eastern Europe for its world-famous landmarks, galleries, and cuisine, but it turns out that this underrated part of the world is finally clocking more attention. And rightfully so.
The best time to visit Santander is definitely in the spring and summer, when temperatures soar and the gorgeous plant life bursts into a vibrant rainbow, especially in the Jardines de Pereda. These botanical gardens are just outside the intriguing Centro Botin Arts Centre, designed by the famous architect Renzo Piano. The rest of the city centre is jam-packed with other attractions too, including the famous Cathedral de Santander.
Holidays in Eastern Europe are usually on the cheaper side, while still offering an incredible array of cultures, architecture, and things to do. While many of these countries have developed incredibly since breaking away from political conflict in the nineties, these slices of history have remained largely untouched. If you are partial to elegant, Gothic architecture, you cannot overlook a trip to Prague, where the Old New Synagogue and St. Vitus Cathedral dazzle visitors, or even Budapest, where Hungarian Parliament looms over the Danube.
Nature also abounds in this part of the world, with the drama of the Carpathian Mountains, the vast, unpopulated forests of Romania, and the alpine lakes dotting the ever-changing landscapes.
