New Zealand Odyssey – North to South Islands

Take in the unique cultural highlights of two islands, amongst breath-taking natural wonders and vibrant coastal centres, in New Zealand, the Land of the Long White Cloud.

Discover New Zealand’s finest sights with an extraordinary three-week journey across this island nation. Begin your Antipodean escape with a flight to Auckland, the ‘City of Sails’, for an introduction to North Island’s vibrant Māori heritage and striking coastal vistas. Embrace Māori culture at the Waitangi Treaty Grounds, which saw the first agreement signed between the British Empire and indigenous tribes. Continue north to the idyllic Bay of Islands for an island-hopping cruise before moving south to Rotorua’s geothermal springs. Cinema lovers won’t want to miss an optional tour of the popular Hobbiton film set ahead of visits to the National Kiwi Sanctuary and Te Puia, home to the Whakarewarewa Thermal Reserve. A scenic journey to the national capital, Wellington, follows with a stop en route in Taupo, home to New Zealand’s largest lake.

Crossing the Cook Strait, you’ll then experience the natural wonders and world-famous national parks of the scenic South Island. Starting with a drive to Nelson and a tasting at a vineyard en route, you’ll venture into the acclaimed Abel Tasman National Park. Take in Christchurch, the ‘Garden City’, where you’ll find an abundance of sightseeing opportunities amidst the city’s restored landmarks. The tour continues with a stop at spectacular Mount Cook, Australasia’s highest peak, which can be experienced from above with an optional helicopter ride ahead of an overnight stay in rural Twizel. Dunedin, the ‘Edinburgh of the South’, is next and you’ll have ample time to explore ahead of an optional visit to the Royal Albatross Colony. Soak up more vistas, entering New Zealand’s fabled Fiordland ahead of a call at the luminous Te Anau Caves. A final stop at Milford Sound, a magnificent ice-age fjord, and a two-night stay in Queenstown complete an extraordinary introduction to the Land of the Long White Cloud.
