We’re looking forward to marking the occasion later today and, in the meantime, have been talking to one of our dedicated Irish tour managers, Matt, for how best to enjoy your time in the country. 1. What inspired you to become a tour manager, and what do you love most about guiding visitors through Belfast?
I’m following in my father’s footsteps, and I take great pride in showcasing Belfast and Northern Ireland. It’s a place with a rich history, resilience, and a welcoming spirit, and I love sharing its transformation into a vibrant and exciting destination.
2. How long have you been leading tours in Belfast?
Almost forty years, and every tour still feels special!
3. What makes the Belfast & the Titanic Experience tour special?
It combines fascinating history, stunning scenery, and an incredible food and drink scene. Visitors can explore world-class attractions while also soaking up the atmosphere in lively pubs with traditional Irish music.
4. What’s your favourite part of managing this tour?
Sharing my love for Northern Ireland and seeing guests connect with its history, landscapes, and people. Watching visitors fall in love with the place is incredibly rewarding.
5. Can you share a must-see or wish-list moment from this tour?
The breath-taking Antrim Coast and the Giant’s Causeway – it’s a natural wonder that never fails to impress.
6. What local insights or hidden gems can travellers discover on this itinerary?
Whites Tavern, especially when traditional Irish music fills the air, is a must-visit. The Cloth Ear bar at the Merchant Hotel is perfect for a relaxed drink, and the Ulster Museum offers a fascinating deep dive into local history.
7. Do you have any tips for making the most of a visit to Belfast & the Titanic Experience?
A little background reading about Belfast and the Titanic adds to the experience, helping you fully appreciate the history and significance of what you’re seeing.
8. How do you create a welcoming and engaging experience for customers?
I like to learn customers’ names and make the tour feel personal. Mixing historical insights with light-hearted stories keeps things entertaining and memorable.
9. How do you balance structured sightseeing with free time for customers to explore on their own?
This itinerary naturally allows plenty of time for personal exploration, whether it’s shopping, discovering hidden gems, or simply soaking up the local atmosphere.
10. What’s one essential item customers should pack to enhance their experience on this tour?
A sense of curiosity! Belfast has so much to offer, and an open mind and a willingness to explore will make the experience even more rewarding.
