Inside our itineraries Q&A series: Experience the magic of Lapland
To celebrate the launch of our brand-new 2025 Lapland day trips, we’re looking ahead to the most wonderful time of the year with our Lapland Tour Managers.
Few destinations capture the imagination quite like glorious Lapland. Flanked by snow-capped forests and vast glacial mountains, this idyllic winter wonderland promises the perfect way to inspire your festive cheer ahead of the holiday season. What’s more, at our private resort in Swedish Pajala, you’ll enjoy a one-to-one meeting with jolly Santa Claus, too!
To help you get a better idea of what to expect across one of these day trips, we recently sat down with Anthony Jacques and Mike Scott, two of our passionate Lapland Tour Managers, who share their experiences and insights about this magical destination.
Here’s what they had to say:
1. What makes Lapland such a magical destination for our customers, especially during the winter?
Anthony: It’s a unique once-in-a-lifetime experience where everyone, young and old, can immerse themselves in the magical scenery and ambience.
2. Can you share a memorable experience or encounter you've had while working in Lapland?
Mike: Feeding the reindeer at 6:30 AM in -29°C was an experience I’ll never forget. The joy on people's faces as they interact with these magnificent animals is priceless.
Anthony: One year, we had five ladies, aged 66 to 72, dressed in fur coats, who had waited their whole lives to see Santa. When they knocked on his cabin door and he opened it, they started singing 'Santa Baby.' It was such a beautiful and unforgettable moment!
3. How do locals embrace and celebrate traditional Sami culture in daily life and tourism?
Mike: Sami culture is prevalent in their everyday interactions and the stories they share with visitors, offering a glimpse into their traditions and way of life.
4. What tips do you have for making the most of a day trip to Lapland, especially for first-time visitors?
Anthony: Follow the guidelines given by the helpers and the Lapland locals and take the opportunity to enjoy playtime in the snow.
Mike: Remember to cherish every moment, as these experiences will become treasured memories.
5. How does the winter climate affect life and work in Lapland, and what should customers be prepared for?
Mike: Be prepared for early darkness and the cold, but once you’re dressed appropriately, the beauty of Lapland in winter makes it all worthwhile.
