Passport and Visa Information | Newmarket Holidays

You will require a valid passport to travel on any of our overseas holidays, but please bear in mind you may also require a passport for entry to the UK's Crown Dependencies (eg Isle of Man and Jersey). We always recommend, even if travelling within the UK on a flight, you carry your passport.

You should always check the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office website for the most up to date passport and visa requirements.

Travelling to and within the European Union:

Check your passports issue date and expiry date
Your Passport can not be more than 10 years old when you enter your destination country. This means the "date of issue" must be less than ten years ago.
Many European countries require you to have a minimum of three months left on your passport on the day you leave the EU (the "date of expiry")
It is expected that from Summer 2025, you may be required to be in possession of ETIAS. See details below.

Travelling outside of the European Union:

Your passport should be valid for at least 3 months from the date of return, but each country is different, and you should check the requirements.
You may require a visa for your destination. Please visit https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice for more information.

British Citizens are required to have an e-visa to enter India. Details can be found https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/tvoa.html. British Citizens can use the e-visa scheme, however there are some exceptions and we recommend you check with the Travel Visa Company (detailed below).

It is your responsibility to ensure you have adequate entry requirements for your destination prior to committing to your holiday.

Following the UK's withdrawal from the European Union, changes have been planned which affect the eligibility of citizens of the United Kingdom to have visa free travel to the EU. ETIAS is a new European electronic visa waiver system, expected to come into effect in 2025 for customers arriving at European Union and Schengen counties (excluding the Republic of Ireland) from third countries (of which the United Kingdom is now considered). For customers who have travelled to the United States previously, this is like the ESTA visa scheme.

Therefore, before you travel on your holiday in 2025, it may be likely that you will need to be in possession of an ETIAS. Based on the latest information available to us, your ETIAS will cost 7 Euros per person, and will be valid for three years. You can find up to date details here.

This is a new scheme, and applications are NOT YET OPEN - you need take no action at this point. We recommend you keep yourself updated by regularly visiting this website. We do not know when applications will be open.

When applications do open, we have partnered with the Travel Visa Company to assist you, should you require help with your application. Newmarket Holidays will not be able to undertake applications on your behalf, so have instead instructed the services of the Travel Visa Company to provide help, should you need it. EES is the new electronic entry/exit system for European countries which will replace the physical stamping of your passport.

When you go through passport control on arrival, you will need to produce your passport for checking as you do now, but also have your photograph taken and fingerprints scanned. The system will register your entry on arrival and your exit when departing. You will only need to do this on your first entry into Europe after the scheme starts.
Please note: Irish passport holders or British Passport holders with an EU residency are currently excluded.

For those travelling via Eurostar, there is a dual British and French/Belgian) border in operational at St Pancras International. Therefore the EES system will be in place at the station, you will not need to be checked again on arrival at the other side.

You should check whether your destination(s) require a visa for entry at the border. They may not always be obvious. As two examples, for travel to the United States, an ESTA is required. For travel to India, an e-visa is required.
